Today Judith Montano came by the Inn to take pictures of the 2 rooms (historic room 8 & 9 which adjoin) which she’ll be designing.  She found some fabulous mirrors and picture frames in storage.  I agreed to replace the carpet.  Judith is so excited about the project.

The furniture that Judith selected was moved into her rooms by Alan our maintenance man.  Yesterday he moved the furniture that Liz and Janey had selected into room 5.

Ann Gethen is the only artist to select a suite to remodel.  She is calling the room ‘The Sangres”.

I promised to email pictures of room 1 to LeClair Skaggs but I can’t read her email address.  I smudged it.

Cathy Mullens was the first artist to select a room (historic room 10).  Cathy has some beautiful photos in the dining room.

I met Jill Whitmore when she brought a flyer about the opening of her new gallery space on main street.  Jill has selected room 2.

Reba and Steve (owners of Museum of Friends) are going to design a corner of our restaurant ( “Alys – at the la veta inn”) which is likely to be an incredible artistic display.

Russ,

As you may know I recently purchased the La Veta Inn.  I want you to be aware of a program I’ve started whereby local artists adopt and decorate a room at the La Veta Inn.  Each of our 18 rooms will feature a local artist, with the artist’s work (photos, paintings, sculptures, quilt, books, wall hangings, etc.) incorporated into the artist’s design of the room.  The room will also be named in honor of the artist.  It’s my intention to turn the La Veta Inn into a ‘living gallery’, to support the artists in the community and to draw new artists to this area.  I also intend to aggressively retail the art work in various ways, both online and offline. The coffee/juice bar will have a video series of 5 minute interviews with each artist about their whys and hows. I’d also hope to invite folks from the front range and neighboring states to come to La Veta for art and culinary classes. I don’t know if your work would apply to the ‘Adopt a Room’ project but if you’d like to be involved in any way I’d love to talk to you about it.
Our current list of committed artists include:
Ann Gethen
Cathy Mullens
LeClair Skaggs
Janey Waldrep
Jill Whitmore
Judith Baker Montano
Reba and Steve Savageau

I’m also hoping to find local interior designers that want to help an artist design their room.  Currently Liz Henson is acting as design consultant with Janey Waldrep.
Warm regards,
Kurt
